New Orleans Does the Super Bowl
Sunday February 7, 2010 is a date that will live in New Orleans Lore for decades to come. On that day the Saints, the city's beloved NFL team, played and won the Super Bowl for the first time in its history.
For New Orleans, a sense of renewal had filled the air. The city had finally moved past the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina. The future for the Big Easy at last seemed brighter. The following photo essay documents in small part what went on Super Bowl weekend as citizens of the "who dat nation" savored a long elusive victory. In the opening photo New Orleans Saints fan Derek Huston revs up for the big day.

Gare de Canfranc, Canfranc, Spain
The classic Gare de Canfranc sits like a ghost in the small town just on the other side of the French border with Spain in the Pyrenees.
This station was one of the great misguided projects of 20th century Europe. Built by Spain's General Franco after he took power in the 1930's, Canfranc was to be the great transfer point between France and Spain. The fact it was nestled deep in the Pyrenees far from any established population centers, was of little interest to Franco. He coerced the French into joining him the project. Gare de Canfranc has played the role of the majestic station when featured in "Dr. Zhivago". These days it is an unintentional tourist attraction in this small town just over the French border. One train still stops at Canfranc, the end of the line.
